Treacle

Died 10th May 2005, aged 12 years

Treacle came from a rescue home along with his sister Lollipop. They had been found in a cardboard box floating down a river at just 6 weeks old. My husband bought them for my 40th birthday so they were extra special. Lollipop was tiny and frail. When she was 6 her lungs failed and she collapsed and died. Treacle was a gentle giant who loved all our other cats. At one time I had 6 cats and he just took to them all, never cross with them. Treacle would only eat cat food. He would cry in the morning for more food and he would not stop crying until he had eaten 3 bowls - and the same again in the evening when we had come home from work!

He was an adorable, easy going cat who just loved to be fussed and cuddled. He was the most gentle cat I have ever owned. He never cried round the table like my other cats. He was a big lovable cat who I used to walk around with in my arms like a baby.

12 year old Treacle went to the vet for a routine dental in May 2005. Sadly, something went wrong and he died while he was there. I miss him desperately and I will be wary about leaving any cat at the vet again. My 2 cats that I have left now will only be going to the vet for their injections and if they are ill.

He has left a big gap in our home. Our youngest cat Tilly really misses him; she still walks up and down the garden looking for him and waits patiently on the patio hoping he will come back. When he was last in the cattery, the guy told us that Tilly cuddled up to him all the time and he would wash her and stay with her, unlike our other cat Rupert, Mr Independent. I just feel so guilty for taking him to the vet as I feel as if I took him to his death. All I remember is his little face when I left him crying at the vets. I really miss him.

On Sunday 10 July we held a garden party. I had previously decided to have a garden party before Treacle was taken from us. We held the party in his memory and asked all of our friends to bring a tin of cat food each, which would be donated to the cats of PussyCat Lodge. We also had pick a straw, guess the weight of the cake, name the teddy and how many sweets in the jar, as well as an auction on the items that people won in pick a straw and did not want. We raised £41.00 for PussyCat Lodge and all had a fun day.

My darling fat cat as you where so fondly known
The gentle giant who lived in our home
You where taking from us without warning
No time to say goodbye, No time to cry
Sleep tight, night night my big fat darling cat.
Hugs & Kisses
