Poets' Corner

This section is for poems, prose, limericks or doggerel (or should that be catterel!) with a cat theme. If you or your cat is a budding poet, then please send your poems to the Webmaster. They will be published here and possibly in the Newsletter as well.

Purr-usalem

And did those paws in recent time
Walk upon sand and wet cement
And was the wholly lamb joint ate
On Sunday much to Mum's lament
And did the grumpy Dad divine
Shine forth upon my naughty dares
And was Purr-usalem salvaged here
Among Mum's dark satanic stares.

Bring me my tin of Hi-Life Gold
Bring me the flavour I desire
Bring me my bowl, oh pouch unfold
Bring me my food stacked even higher
I will not cease from constant mew
Nor shall that fork sleep in your hand
Till we have built Purr-usalem
In England's green and pleasant land.

'Ella (short for Cinderella) is one of our more talented cats. She is something of a poet and wrote the above poem in honour of the England Ashes victory in 2005. She is the inspiration behind Poets' Corner.

How Pussy Willows Got Their Name

Many springtimes ago, according to an old Polish legend, tiny kittens had been chasing butterflies at the river's edge and fell in. The mother cat, helpless to save them, started crying. The willows at the river's edge swept their long graceful branches into the water - the kittens gripped on tightly to the branches and were rescued. Each springtime since, goes the legend, willow branches sprout tiny fur-like buds where the tiny kittens once clung.
