2001 - 2005
This handsome black boy arrived at PussyCat Lodge back in 2001; another feral youngster who was not smart enough to thwart Jane Regan's expert trapping skills! Jane successfully caught both Linford and his pretty tortie sister, Christie. Both kittens were that bit too old to be domesticated easily. Try as Jennie and all the helpers did, neither were prepared to be friendly towards we humans ... at least not just yet!
After a while, it was just too unkind to keep them in a pen, so they were both allowed out to join the garden cats; an environment in which they thrived. So much so that Christie was soon able to move to a new home where Jennie knows she is still loved, well cared for and most importantly, happy. Linford was still very shy and timid but, very slowly, he did begin to trust some familiar faces. Like all the other garden cats he did eventually succumb to the temptation of being hand fed tasty treats such as ham and turkey slices! This led to him allowing you to stroke his luxurious thick coat, but grooming was out of the question - Linford took care of that himself.
Though he only lived for four years they were very happy years. Last month Jennie noticed something not quite right with his nose. Thinking he may possibly have been involved in an accident, she took him straight to the vet. Under a general anesthetic it was discovered that Linford was suffering from cancer. A tumour was eating away his face from the inside. Thankfully it was still in the early stages so he had not suffered. The decision was made not to wake Linford from his dreams and he went peacefully, cuddled and loved to the end.
Another special friend gone but not forgotten.
