In my job I have to make sure peoples animals are taken care of when they are in hospital. I had the pleasure to meet a lovely 88 yrs old woman 2 weeks ago and Jennie kindly said PCL would take care of the cat for her.
It was discovered that the cat couldnt eat very well and after an examination it was found she had a tumour, the vet did all they could but sadly she died when they were trying to remove the tumour.
Well I had to do one of the hardest things in my job today and tell her owner the bad news, I had to hold back the tears as she cried, she asked if it was because Tippy was fretting for her, of course it wasn't I told her. Her husband had died 16 yrs before and Tippy was her only companion.
I know this is a sad story, but also recognises the bond some people have with their pets and how much pleasure they can give and company.
At times we take in cats that have been companions for older people when they have moved into care or died. This is one of the many parts of cat rescue.
