Buttons

1987 - 2004

In 1990, Buttons sauntered in to PussyCat Lodge at the age of 3. He was the product of a broken home. His Mum and Dad had split up, Dad getting custody. Dad got a new girlfriend who sadly could not cope with Button's unsociable habit. Yes, he's another cat who loves to pee anywhere except the litter tray!

Buttons really does have a pedigree background. A cream cameo Persian, he was actually a champion show kitten in his youth. He never has lost that air of superiority. Buttons has never mastered the art of self-grooming and as he hates to be groomed has to go off to the vets twice a year for a short back and sides.

He has a deadpan face that speaks volumes: the slightest turn and it is as if he is thinking something totally different. How I would love to be able to read his mind. I have never known such a laid back cat. Some years ago there was a fund-raising event at PussyCat Lodge. Buttons settled down for a snooze on the table displaying the new goods and did not budge the whole afternoon. We actually lost money on sales as no one was prepared to disturb him!

Over the years his looks and temperament alone could have found Buttons a hundred willing homes. Understandably, his unsociable habit was not acceptable to those prospective homes. There are not many people like Jennie.

Now, 13 years later, it is impossible to imagine PussyCat Lodge without him and Tilly. They are both wonderful characters who endear themselves to all they meet. Having seen so many changes, comings and goings over the years they would be forgiven for having an occasional temper tantrum yet they never have: nothing appears to bother them. They are perfect examples of cats that are very pleased and content with their life. We love them and most importantly they seem to love life at PussyCat Lodge.

I'll just help myself then!

Who me?

Many of you will remember Buttons, especially from Open Days, where he always made his presence felt, never frightened of all the people and enjoying the fuss and attention he got. He was the beige Persian.

Buttons was quite a laid back cat and spent a lot of time napping. This could have been because he used to have a brilliant prize-winning pedigree career: going to shows; being groomed and pampered; being quite bored and in a cage I expect, so he was used to lazing.

He arrived at PussyCat Lodge when his owner decided she couldn't keep him due to a bladder problem. I remember Buttons often didn't care where he went to the loo! Jennie puts up with a lot of things from her un-homeable friends that others wouldn't. She still misses them once they are gone. In her own words: "I will miss my very old friend dearly."

Until a few days before his death, Buttons had still been enjoyng his food, a cuddle, and basking in the sunshine in his favourite spot in the garden, which was made his final resting place.
